A note on copyright
Spiritually, the literature written under the name Showing Up was inspired by recovery in many people’s lives. A gift from the Higher Power, it should be free and available to any who wish it.
Legally, I am the copyright holder in The Showing Up Commitments book, often called the Pink Book. The first draft of the text drew on more than eighty newsletters I had written between November 6, 2015 and April 10, 2019, each of which were issued under a Creative Commons, attribution, non-commercial, share-alike license. I selected, edited, and revised this text, which I then proposed to the Showing Up Steering Committee. The texts of the Commitments, in italics at the beginning of the chapters, were written together by a small group, and are excluded from the copyright registration.
To cover the costs of printing, I sent out a call to fund production costs of the book via my own newsletter. I have never received any payment of any kind for the more than five hundred hours I put into writing, editing, and distributing the book. On the contrary, I myself contributed more than $2000 towards publication costs. I do not now nor do I intend in the future to make money off this work.
So that the practice is available to all who wish to, I have decided to make the literature available to all who wish to learn about the practice.
All literature is issued under a creative commons non-commercial, share-alike license. Anyone may use it, edit it, and remix it as long as they (1) credit the source, (2) don’t sell it above cost (this includes non-profits), and (3) issue it under the same license.
If you wish to use the material, please do so. If you wish to incorporate it into a meeting script or other piece of literature, please indicate in the script what was adapted from Showing Up, what was changed, and provide a link to this website. For example:
“The understanding of debting and the commitments to the tools have been adapted from the Showing Up Action Group (www.showingup.org). We changed the commitment to business meetings and service.”
